Founded in 1867, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is ranked as one of the best universities in the US – #14 Public and #52 in US (U.S. News & World Report 2017) – and one of the best universities in the World – #37 THES and #69 QS (2018). Situated about 140 miles south of Chicago in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana (total population 207,000) in east-central Illinois, UIUC is the flagship campus of the University of Illinois system.

A world-class leader in research, teaching, and public engagement, UIUC it is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and deemed to be one of the ‘public Ivy’ institutions. With c. 44k students (c.33K at UG level), UIUC comprises of 15 academic Colleges, with exchange opportunities with:

  • College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES – (mainly APD subjects)
  • College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS – (Classics, Economics, English Language & Linguistics, English Literature, Geography, History, Mathematics & Statistics, Philosophy, Political Science and Psychology)

Set in a beautiful campus – known for its landscape and architecture – UIUC offers some of the best university facilities in the US e.g. one of the largest public university libraries in the world, the largest Greek system, c.1000 active Registered Student Organizations and is rated as one of the most “disability friendly” U.S. campuses. Sports fans are well catered for with UIUC being in NCAA’s Division 1 and part of the Big Ten Conference.

The University owned Willard Airport offers regular flights to Chicago and Dallas, making UIUC well placed to allow you to explore everything that the USA has to offer.

Although places are limited, being part of UIUC’s ‘Fighting Illini’ will present an amazing opportunity for those lucky enough to study there.

Semester dates: Semester 1: August- December
Semester 2: January – May

Will need to take out compulsory insurance – either from UIUC or alternative (see insurance section on funding page).
