Beijing Institute of Technology International Summer Program 2024

BIT International Summer Program Information

Dates: 30 June 2024 (check-in) to 27 July 2024 (check-out) – 28 days duration

  • Emerging Technologies in Materials for Renewable Energy (see STEM booklet)
  • Aesthetics of Traditional Chinese Culture and Classical Chinese Humanities (see Arts booklet)
  • Management and Innovation (see Arts booklet
  • Chinese Kung Fu (see Arts booklet
  • Chinese Language and Multicultural Practice (see Arts booklet; also delivered online)
BIT scholarships

BIT are offering up to a maximum of 5 scholarships per module. BIT scholarships are offered by BIT, not the University of Reading. BIT has confirmed that the scholarship consists of:

  • Tuition
  • On-campus accommodation
  • Teaching materials
  • Culture tours
  • Lab work (where appropriate)

University of Reading students selected to participate will need to cover the costs for international travel and meals during their period of study in China (and potentially visa costs, if required).

Eligibility

The BIT International Summer Program is open to non-Chinese national University of Reading students who have successfully completed a minimum of one year of study at the University of Reading.

Final year students (i.e. those who will have completed their final exams in May and June 2024) and students who are Chinese nationals cannot be considered.

Students must also have sufficient academic knowledge to complete the module the wish to study. Please read each information booklet carefully for more information.

Application and selection

Students will need to complete an internal application. Successful applicants will be nominated by the Study Abroad Office to BIT to receive the BIT Scholarship and be offered a place to study at the BIT International Summer Program. BIT has the final say over applicant selection.

Application deadline: 10:00 UK time, Tuesday 9 April 2024

University of Reading students will be selected using the following factors:

  • Students who have not participated (or are not due to participate) in a study abroad semester or year, or another summer school, will be prioritised.
  • Students from the following groups:
    • from low-income backgrounds
    • from low-participation wards
    • identify as an ethnic minority
    • have a recognised disability
    • are care givers, care leavers or care-experienced
  • Henley Business School students will be prioritised for the ‘Management and Innovation’ module; students enrolled on IWLP Chinese modules will be prioritised for the ‘Chinese Language and Multicultural Practice’ module.
  • Strength of application (i.e. “Why are you interested in this Program and how do you think it will benefit you?”) will be taken into consideration.
Turing Funding

The BIT International Summer Program is over the minimum 28 days duration required to be eligible for Turing funds. Successful applicants to the Program will be advised how to apply for Turing funds post-nomination to BIT. Details regarding Turing funds can be found on the University of Reading Study Abroad Finance webpages.

Please note Turing funds are competitive, and not guaranteed.

Online Chinese Language and Multicultural Practice

The online programme is FREE, with no limits on the number of University of Reading students who can select this option.
