I made some of the best memories

Written by Lewis Stone

During my time abroad, I felt very welcomed by both the University and wider community. The range of activities I took part in definitely shows this – from joining the UMW Running Club to spending the Thanksgiving break with a friend’s family. With every new experience, I gained valuable insights into a new culture, as well as a deeper understanding of American social life. My academic understanding of American history and politics has significantly improved too. I knew I was in a safe environment with full support from both Reading’s and Mary Wash’s exchange program staff, making both the journey and stay a lot smoother. This is even despite the challenges that such things as COVID imposed. Overall, I have not only only made some of the best memories, but I can proudly say I now have very close friendships that will last a lifetime, even if they are in a different continent.
