I might have left a piece of my heart in Aarhus
Spending my summer in Aarhus was the best decision I’ve ever made, hands down.
Academically, I loved the university there. The course was ran in such a relaxed, friendly manner, and I loved having the ability to have deep discussions about the topics we were covering in class. Our tutor was amazingly knowledgeable and clearly had a real passion for what she was teaching. Our class was really diverse too, Danes, Brits, Australians, Americans, Italians, you name it! That meant that we could compare our experiences and learn about how our countries compare when it comes to our subject topic. The campus was beautiful and the facilities were amazing, my “usual” library had a cantine and even had trees inside and massage chairs!
Aarhus itself is probably one of my favourite cities ever! It’s a student’s paradise and it’s so easy to navigate, not to mention it feels so safe and welcoming. I ended up living really close to the beach and so I went most days since it was really warm almost the whole time we were there.
The university put together a really amazing social program for us that included trips to the Tivoli Friheden theme park, canoeing, a trip to the horse races, a city tour and visit to the town hall, a beer crawl, and so, so much more! There were also a load of events that the summer uni students arranged ourselves, such as beach BBQs, trips to watch the local football team AGF play, pub quizes, and even a day trip to Copenhagen.
I met so many amazing people from all over the world and I even made friends with a few people from Austria, just in time for my year abroad there! I really didn’t expected to be so busy during summer uni, but I genuinely had hardly any real “down time” because it felt like I had plans with friends every day. Some nights we ended up coming home as the sun rose because we’d been having so much fun!
I will never forget my time in Aarhus, and I think I might have left a piece of my heart there.
