Why I Chose the University of Reading
When I was choosing a university for my exchange program, I considered many different schools. I spent a lot of time comparing options, but in the end, I chose the University of Reading because of its location. I wanted to gain as many new experiences as possible during my exchange, and now, looking back, I can confidently say that Reading was the best choice I could have made.
One of the biggest advantages of studying at Reading was how easy it was to travel. Because the university is close to London and well-connected to airports and trains, I was able to visit many countries during the semester. I travelled to Italy, Paris, Germany, and the Netherlands, all while keeping up with my studies. Reading also has something called “Reading Week,” which is a one-week break in the middle of the semester with no classes. This gave me the perfect chance to take a longer trip, relax, and refresh myself. It helped me release the stress that had built up during the term and come back with a clear, positive mind.
Traveling allowed me to meet many people from different backgrounds and experience new cultures directly. Before going to Europe, I thought many European countries would feel similar because they are close to each other. But once I visited, I realized that every country has its own unique culture, atmosphere, and people. Every moment felt special, and it made my exchange experience even more meaningful.
At the university itself, the Study Abroad Office created many opportunities to meet students from all around the world. I took a class called Intercultural Competence and Communication, which helped me reflect on my own perspectives and understand the values and behaviors of people from different cultures. It broadened my thinking and helped me grow personally. I also joined the Conversation Café, which was held both online and in person. Each session had a different topic, and it was a wonderful chance to meet new people and connect with students from many different places. These experiences were truly valuable and unforgettable.
If you want to experience diverse cultures, meet amazing people, and grow through meaningful opportunities, I strongly recommend the University of Reading. It gave me memories and lessons that I will carry with me for a long time.
